About Raise a Green Dog!

Gracie, Leslie, JohannWith nearly 77 million dogs in households throughout the US, you can bet our pups are leaving their paws prints on the environment. And as our dogs live in an ever increasingly contaminated environment, we can keep them as safe as can be to live the healthiest, happiest and longest life possible.

How? Help your dog go green!

By purchasing environmentally responsible pup products, utilizing environmentally safe household products, practicing eco-friendly and safe processes in your and your dog's life, you can have a healthier and happier pup, and help the environment at the same time!

Our site brings you tips, tricks, products, and other information on how you can help your dog go green. We're just starting so keep on watch, there's lots more to come!

Raise a Green Dog began as a Squidoo lens in September of 2007 in response to readers questions about our green lifestyle.

It was a big hit so, in November 2007, we started the Raise a Green Dog blog as a way to share even more and updated information about how we live a green life.

Our mission is to help other dog lovers learn how they can have a healthier, happier pup and environment by sharing information about our own green lifestyle through articles, and the products and services we find that we would welcome into our life.

Johann (who I lovingly call JoJo, (pronounced YoYo)) and I have both lived a green lifestyle all of our lives. My mother raised me in a green lifestyle, before being green was popular. After adopting Johann, at age 12 weeks, from a no-kill animal shelter in the Indianapolis area in September of 2004, I wanted to be sure that he was not only safe from the environmental dangers that he could encounter in his life, I also wanted eco-friendly, healthy and safe products for him to eat, play with, sleep in, and be and live around.

Johann The DogFortunately knowing how to live an eco-friendly lifestyle gave me a 'leg up' in helping find information, tips and products that would keep Johann the happiest and healthiest dog he could be. I quickly discovered that information and products were not easy to find for other dog lovers, especially if they didn't know very much about being green.

That's when Raise A Green Dog was born.

Raise a Green Dog (with authors Leslie May and Johann The Dog) has evolved from a simple Squidoo lens, to a ever-growing popular blog into a complete website, with educational pages, tips, tricks and product information to help dog lovers learn more about being green and helping their dog live a healthier lifestyle.

Over the past year and a half the site and blog has been featured in Modern Dog, Dog World Magazine, Dog Fancy's premier issue of Natural Dog Magazine, Dog Sport Magazine, Pet Style Magazine, Tails Inc., publications, on Internet radio and in countless blogs and newspaper articles across the world.

Our goal is to continue to bring valuable, green lifestyle information to dog lovers, so they can enjoy a long and happy life with their dogs, and help the environment at the same time.
